At the Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild retreat I learned the difference between liberated as compared to improv piecing. This first quilt was liberated pieced -that is we use traditional star blocks but they didn't have to be all matching Matchey with points to the corners. I like this! We also learned an quick pieced bird block, and again more liberated than exact. These liberated blocks piece together with them on ombré fabric makes a very different looking quilt from me. It was fun to take on new challenges. Thanks Carole and Lou for the instruction.
The improv quilt is very relaxing to make. First I start by making fabric from crumbs as they are called, the small leftover pieces from previous projects. Then I put them up on a design wall and play with shapes and placement. I love how this one turned out, and I'm still thinking how to quilt it.
