The Christmas Tin quilt is finished!
It's been the longest UFO I've ever had and I am so glad it is done and very pleased with the result.
I must give credit to Frieda Anderson's blog for the great instructions on fusing. Talk about being in sync-I was watching Sewing with Nancy on PBS and it was the show on fusing-just as I
decided to finish this UFO by Christmas. And thanks to Leah Day at Free Motion Quilting
for inspiring me to pick up my UFO's and finish them.

The quilt top is pieced. I planned to do surface stitching, that is; outlining the fused applique in the coordinating colors green and red. Because of the small size, it could only be done by free-motion stitching. I used a fusible tear-away stabilizer but the thread continuously snapped. Then I hooped it like in machine embroidery, again, too much breakage. Changing needles and different thread types did not help, so now I will outline the applique in the machine quilting design.

Next project is a UFO...un-finished object but I'm so excited to get back to it. This Christmas tin is the "Baltimore Album Quilt" Limited Edition Canister 1997. I always wanted to duplicate it, so I scanned it in and played with the sizes to get started.

The blocks are done using a fusible applique technique. Yes, it would be a beautiful hand done, but I had to consider that it is a 6 week a year quilt display. That's about the amount of time I leave my Christmas decorations up. Blocks are done.

Christmas Cat -  finished!
I painted in face markings, shadows and whiskers. The quilting reflects the fur direction. Cute Christmas Cat finished size is 30" wide by 23 1/2" long.

Love it on the green fabric! Ready for surface design stitching then quilting. I think he's looking at ???? I have thought of putting a yarn ball or mouse tail center front.

Initial layout of fabrics using Misty Fuse to Parchment Paper. The overlap holds all together, and it is re-workable if need be.
Initial drawing.

One of my favorites and all by hand.
Made in early 1980's

Christmas  - "You'd better not pout..."
Love to hang this every Christmas!

Christmas Goose
After taking David Taylor's class, I should have lined the goose so the background did not show through goose. Made @ 1985

Christmas Postage Stamp
1" squares

Christmas Star
Made this feathered star centered quilt after a class with Marsha McCloskey in early 1980's. Note have fabrics have changed. Check out Marsha's website.

Raffle Quilt
Pattern by Virginia Robertson, Osage County Quilt Factory. Crossroads to Texas Quilt Guild, Killeen, TX made it as a Raffle Quilt. Various helpers paper pieced the blocks (the only way I could think of to solve the many hands, many size blocks), and I pieced, bordered, and machine quilted it. It is one of my favorite quilts.

Watercolor Squares
Great to use up scraps and I still see great designs in this style today (2012).

Signature Quilts
By adding a pellon stiffener to the block center,
this can be written on in permanent fabric markers. Two log cabin sets.

Coffee Cups
Coffee Cup made inspired by magazine photo.

Cabin in Log Cabin

Cabin
This is from a pattern book, if I remember it was featured on the cover. I will cite it when I remember. The sunflower top and bottom border were published in the magazine, Quiltmaker. Made in early 1990's.

Hearts on Black - 28" x 38"
The center heart is machine embroidered. It is a one piece cloth quilt plus borders. The heavy thread color quilting suggests blocks.

Autumn Cactus 45"x 60"
Influenced by El Paso colors and trip through Arizona

Applique Blue & Red - 58" x 78"
Designs from the Dear Jane book??? I don't quite remember but it is machine appliqued and quilted.

Dodge Caravan Quilt - 45" x 62"
I have such fond memories of this quilt and am surprised it is still presentable. It lived a life in the back of two Dodge Caravans - almost 10 years through kids, dogs, groceries, luggage, and whatever else was hauled.

Carlisle Houses
The Stitch and Bitch quilt group made several quilts over the year we were assigned together. This is the house quilt - each member made a block. Mine is the center one - a rendition of our "Smurf" village home.

Fall Block Challenge 27" square
Center bottom block is mine with quote "Friends are like fine quilts, they age with you but never lose their warmth"
Carlisle Barracks, PA

Christmas Challenge 27" square
Mine is the center kitty with a jingle bell on collar. I just love the Santa and Christmas tree blocks too.

Amish Challenge 27" square
Being near Amish country in PA we visited Bird-in-Hand and Lancaster County. Amish quilts are so unique and powerful in their color but not sure when put together as a sampler it quite works. I really must re-block this quilt.

Easter - Spring Challenge
A challenge for the Stitch and Bitch group while at Carlisle Barracks, Pa. The two tall rabbits are mine. We had 8 members so always an extra block was needed for nine patch. I really enjoyed this Stitch and Bitch Group!

Signature Quilt
Made for signatures in the stars from the small class unit we were with at Carlisle Barracks, Pa

German Fabric Challenge
The rose color was the fabric that had to be used.
And what was I thinking? The black is actually velveteen - so slippery to stitch.

Folk Art
The subdued colors make it seem folky - a style that was popular in the "country decorating" fad.

*When I remember where the heart wreath pattern is from I will post it. Right now I'm drawing a blank.

Memorial Quilt
"Broken Heart" pattern. It's made from the clothes J.R. loved from baby (see the small bib overalls) until the time of his death. I love the Ninja turtles, soccer, crayon drawing transfer, even a baby blanket. All have wonderful memories for the family. The checked border fabric was his hospital gowns.
