Qdad Challenge

Day Qdad Facebook page challenged this week to design a Medallion Quilt in seven days from a photo. All photo's from designseeds.com and posted by M. Wilkie. Thanks, Michelle!
Day 1- I used the intersecting straight lines as design element. Different heights elude to entry perspective.

Day 2- the crosswise wood bars anchor corners.
Day 3- beautiful sea glass! It was a challenge to make it work. I think this is "doable" with raw edge appliqué.
Day 4- The sea glass design is so prevalent a place to rest the eyes is needed. The pale gold with the background grey in subtle blocks keeps the design expanding.
Day 5- this photo set the color scheme, it goes great with the sea glass border. Again the stripes expand the design plus I love them!
Day 6- Roses to blend into design, maybe paper roses. This is looking very Art Deco an architectural style I love. Expanded corners with stripes for coherent design.
Day 7- final design day. With so many strong elements in the center Medallion the final border needs to be quite plain, low volume. This was hard with this rich in designs photo....just look at the gorgeous curves and lucious blues. Finally when I noticed the trellis in the center motif that was it. Using just the neutral color picks it became the border. Rather than piece this border, I would find a similar fabric or just have this fabric design printed at Spoonflower.
A fun design week at QDAD on Facebook. Try it sometime, I'm using Graphic by Autodesk app for designing on my iPad.
