Modern quilts

I was so taken by an argyle style quilt block on Pinterest I pieced it using the beautiful dyed fabric scraps from Barb Johnson, I hope it looks Modern because that's the style I want in my home now.  Usable everyday, bright, arty quilt decor.  Saturday I went to the Modern Quilt Quild meeting and.......wow.....there were bright arty quilts. I think I've found a group to move me towards my goal.

 Do I miss argyle socks?  No, but where to stop on this quilt? Barb got me to try just sewing fabric together with no templates or patterns......lol not easy for one who draws out designs on graph paper. It's like shedding pantyhose....what's going to hold it all in shape? Would a border of improv (as I heard it called at the meeting Sat) piecing go well here? It's on the design wall to reflect on the next step.
