Medallion Week on FB Qdad

Usually on Quilt design a day on Facebook, it's just what it says- a design a day. So I really enjoy when it's Medallion week! A photo is posted for inspiration for the day but for seven days it's to design a Medallion Quilt.
Here's my design progression-
Center, added border orange circles with soft lavender and blue, then the green gold piano keys. Totally changed colors for a fun, whimsical feel. The red corners were a "what if" design try that I like. I finished on day six as the day seven photo inspiration just didn't seem to blend. This design could be a game board, I like and will put it on my list of #qdad2reality list.

Improv Glow -a fun Quilt to make. I quilted it on my home machine so I could have the big round circle.

I've also been string piecing on old phone book pages to use up stash. There's enough to do colors and first up were the shoe boxes of yellow and blue. I like this mindless sewing while watching TV. Oops, one block to change direction....do you see it?

Qdad Challenge- 1 month of a daily word to design

The Facebook group, Qdad- Quilt design a day started a word inspiration (rather than out usual photo) that continued for a month....I did it, designed and posted all. My recent favorite ones are:

Word prompt- Stars....this by far was my most liked one. I'm writing the pattern and will make. I think it would look great in grunge or ombré fabrics

Word prompt- crosses. This is based on scale variation like Stars above.

Word prompt- stairs. This is the second most liked of mine. I think it could be done easily with bias tape appliqué on the background.

Word prompt- flowers. This is my favorite, I think the quilt stitches and accents in 12 wt thread would be fun!

Word prompt- Warmth. This reads "hot" to me! I do like the crosses weave effect.

2017 Quilt time

I have so much fun doing the mini quilts for the "I Love this Fabric" class I teach, the ideas multiply like rabbits. The December class was full of colorful fun fabrics, I can't wait to see the finished Quilts. I hope they bring them to our January SMQG meeting. Another class is scheduled for Tues, Jan 24 if you want to join the fun.
I made another design wall 4' x 8' out of batting covered foam board for all these Mini Quilt ideas. Also see the tracing paper on the right over the small star Quilt challenge.....I'm working on Quilt stitch ideas.

Here's the Kaffee Fasset fish fabric in process. This one needs the quilting extended into the turquoise border.

Another recent finish, Jack the Cat in negative space.

Qdad (the Quilt Design a Day Facebook group) has a word challenge this month. Here's some of my designs.
The one below word is "favorite" and Mote Aquarium is one of mine favorite places to take photos. I stylized the photo then positioned "Nemo" to appear to be swimming out of a Drunkards Path cave.

The word is "beach". I'm working on NOT doing literal interpretations- this is the essence of beach and waves.

Cold Weather. My visiting brother returned home to the cold vortex, I'm so thankful I live here!

And now back to work on Quilt entries for the FKQG show.

The design I wish I made

Earlier I posted my Qdad (Quilt Design a Day-Facebook group) entry. Also did a follow up entry on the FB page explaining while I like the design it is still very literal (logical) from the photo. Various discussions followed with great suggestions by group founder Anne Sullivan. And I did have a Design I like so much better but with deadlines and travel did not have time to actually make it. Has that ever happened to you?
Here Is the design I love that I will make one day (soon). Is it still literal? Yes but edited. I like it so much more than the one made.

Patchwork is in as per the photos in Veranda magazine Nov/Dec issue. I love these rich reds...
